An Index Theorem for Modules on a Hypersurface Singularity

چکیده
A topological interpretation of Hochster’s Theta pairing of two modules on a hypersurface ring is given in terms of linking numbers. This generalizes results of M. Hochster and proves a conjecture of J. Steenbrink. As a corollary we get that the Theta pairing vanishes for isolated hypersurface singularities in an odd number of variables, as was conjectured by H. Dao. 2000 Math. Subj. Computing obstructions for existence of connections on modules
We consider the notion of a connection on a module over a commutative ring, and recall the obstruction calculus for such connections. This obstruction calculus is defined using Hochschild cohomology. However, in order to compute with Gröbner bases, we need the conversion to a description using free resolutions. We describe our implementation in Singular 3.0, available as the library conn.lib. We consider the notion of a connection on a module over a commutative ring, and deduce an obstruction calculus for determining if there exist such connections. The obstruction calculus is defined using Hochschild cohomology. However, in order to compute with Gröbner bases, we need the non-trivial conversion to a description using free resolutions. We describe our implementation in Singular 3.0,...
متن کاملThe decay of the Ricci curvature at a real hypersurface singularity
The Ricci curvature at an isolated singularity of an immersed hypersurface exhibits a local behaviour echoing a global property of the Ricci curvature on a complete hypersurface in euclidean space (i.e., the Efimov theorem [12], that sup Ric ≥ 0). This local behaviour takes the form of a near universal bound on the decay of the Ricci curvature at a simple singularity (eg. a cone singularity) in...
متن کاملLogarithmic Comparison Theorem versus Gauss–manin System for Isolated Singularities
For quasihomogeneous isolated hypersurface singularities, the logarithmic comparison theorem has been characterized explicitly by Holland and Mond. In the nonquasihomogeneous case, we give a necessary condition for the logarithmic comparison theorem in terms of the Gauss–Manin system of the singularity. It shows in particular that the logarithmic comparison theorem can hold for a nonquasihomoge...
متن کاملGENERALIZED PRINCIPAL IDEAL THEOREM FOR MODULES
The Generalized Principal Ideal Theorem is one of the cornerstones of dimension theory for Noetherian rings. For an R-module M, we identify certain submodules of M that play a role analogous to that of prime ideals in the ring R. Using this definition, we extend the Generalized Principal Ideal Theorem to modules.
